We grew up playing this game and never stopped loving it.

But golf in Chicago can be tough. A course worth playing is an hour drive each way. 18 holes on a weekend takes 5 hours. Add a glizzy at the turn and a beer on the 19th hole, and a round suddenly becomes your whole day. You’re either the one asking for a ride, or you’re the cursed friend with a car, guilted into picking up your too-cheap-to-uber friends. And then there’s winter. Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to relearn golf every spring? But we digress.

While we admit there’s something to the suburbanites who drive their customized golf carts directly from their garages down the street to the country club, we are city people.

We’ve lugged our clubs on Divvy bikes and city buses to get to Sydney Marovitz and the Diversey driving range with a smile on our faces. We don’t live here because it’s easy. And that’s no reason we can’t have a convenient place to meet up with some friends for a quick round and work on our golf game.

We also love the idea of the idea of the social element and comradery of a country club but are happy to defer spending the equivalent of a junior analyst’s salary on an initiation fee and monthly dues until our lives aren’t so busy.

There are already some golf simulator places in Chicago, but we wanted something different. We wanted a space that felt like a classic 100 year old golf club and our favorite hole-in-the-wall Chicago dive bars. We wanted a place to play golf year-round with old & new friends close to where we live.

We wanted a place that belongs to the neighborhood.

Grandshire Golf Club sets out to bring the country club experience to Southport Corridor via state-of-the-art indoor golf simulator facilities. There will be two muni bays available for public booking, and a separate members-only section of the building with three private bays (membership limited). We are a BYOB establishment (must be over 21).

So book a bay with some friends for an hour or two and try your hand at indoor golf or join us as a member and grind on your swing year-round.

This is not a replacement for the real thing. We will always take the tee time when we can get it. This is how we play more often in between, and how we show up sharper for the real rounds.
